So you’re looking for the best waterproof headphones for swimming?
Well, swimming doesn’t have to be the only reason to look for a pair of water-resistant earphones.
If you consider running or sports in general to be one of your hobbies, this could be another perfect reason for you. For instance, if you’re a highly motivated individual and don’t like missing your late night run, imagine going out while it’s pouring down with rain. You’ll certainly need your music to get you going by putting you in the right frame of mind.
If you go out with normal earphones, imagine what’ll happen if water makes enters the inside. They’ll be next to useless as most normal models don’t have a strong water- and sweat-resistant feature.
Best Headphones for Swimming
For this reason, if you’re a keen swimmer or simply love the outdoors, then you’ll definitely need to find something more suitable for the occasion. While you enjoy great quality music, the waterproof feature ensures that your earphones maintain their working condition for a long time.
All of this seems quite simple. However, it’s much harder than simply picking a pair of earphones. We need to look at a wide variety of features before we can actually spend our hard earned money. I usually like to decide on the features I’d like best and then I shortlist a number of products according to those features.
While we know that picking any product is a challenge, selecting the best waterproof headphones for swimming and similar underwater activities is even harder. This is because earphones usually don’t have the ability to cope with extensive water depth. On top of this, such conditions can be harmful for you as the pressure can lead to hearing damage. For this reason, most people opt for separate swimming mp3 players which already have the earphones incorporated into the design. I must admit that this would be the best choice for you. However, the problem with these devices is that they can be quite pricey. On top of that you never know when they might break down!
Hence, the team has carried out an extensive search to find the best sets for you. During this search, we tried to find the top models which were associated with a good sound quality, fit and comfort in combination with the water resistant feature. The cost is also important to most people and not only do we like to spend less, we’d all love a product with an excellent price-performance ratio.
Let’s go through these then!
Best Underwater Headphones for Swimming
|Product Name||Type||Water Depth (Feet)||Wireless|
|Aquapac 100% Waterproof Headphones||Ear||10||No|
|X-1 SG-MN1-BK Surge Mini||Ear||12||No|
The product specification for these Swimbuds states that this model is 100% waterproof and the jack is gold plated to prevent any deterioration of the material. For an activity like swimming, the fit of these earphones should be immaculate and this is exactly what we’re told. Removable ear hooks are included in order to enhance this fit which allows the overall design to be suitable for any flipping turns while swimming. However, this is just what we’re told by the manufacturer. There are times when these companies tell us these things to make sure they sell the product. We need to look into this in detail in order to discover whether this product description is accurately presented.
In truth, after testing out the Swimbuds, I was quite impressed with most of the features. For example, there are 4 different bud sizes included and these will not only provide a good comfortable fit but also help to create an effective seal. This will ensure that the water doesn’t enter your ears and cause any problems. However, despite the best efforts of these earbuds, there will be some water which will enter your ears. In order to prevent this from happening, you should utilize Vaseline or other similar techniques which enable you to create an efficient seal. This will mean that a major frustration experienced by swimmers is solved. Other than that
As with most products, the tight seal will be ineffective and dangerous as you go deeper into the water. For these safety reasons, it’s highly advisable to use these Swimbuds within up to around 10 feet of water depth.
Another common problem experienced by swimmers when it comes to underwater headphones is the handling of long cords. The Swimbuds are sold with a short cord for these swimming sessions. In addition to this, we also get an extension cable which will provide us with a great sense of convenience when we’re out of the pool.
When it comes to underwater earphones, we can’t really expect awesome sound quality. However, we do want to hear decent sound with a great bass. This is exactly what the Swimbuds provide. However, in order to maintain this sound quality, you’ll need to ensure that the waterproof seal remains intact.
In summary, I felt that this model is associated with great quality and purpose. Additionally, it’s not too expensive so even if it breaks down after a few months (as most similar products do!), I’m sure that you’ll have no qualms about buying another pair.
The Pyle PWPE10Bs is another pair of decent swimming earphones. This also comes with 4 bud sizes with one of these being the large triple-seal buds. The inclusion of these will allow the creation of a tight seal which will allow you to carry out underwater without any problems. However, depending on the shape and size of your ear canal, you may experience a bit of discomfort.
Another problem you might experience is the tightness of the fit. These earphones do fit tightly and this is effective in creating that highly efficient seal. This tightness may lead to the bud being stuck in your ear when you’re done with your swimming session. This isn’t ideal and in order to combat this, you might need a pair of tweezers on hand. Despite this problem, the loop design is great and enhances the fit and comfort associated with this product.
Let’s move on to the sound quality! In my opinion, the sound delivered by this model isn’t great. However, it’s not bad either and I don’t think it’ll matter too much when you’re underwater. As long as the tight seal is maintained, I don’t think you should have an issue with the sound quality.
One of the major positive points associated with the Swimbuds was the short cord along with the inclusion of an extension cable. This isn’t the case with the Pyle PWPE10Bs! In fact, this model has a 4 foot cable incorporated into the design.
I can’t imagine doing my swimming laps while carrying a 4 foot cable with me. I found this to be a massive disadvantage as it can be highly time-consuming and frustrating when you repeatedly have to put the cord back into place.
While the cord length is a significant drawback for me, it’s worth mentioning that the Pyle PWPE10Bs cost just under 12 dollars. This is an incredible price for a very effective pair of earphones. This price has majorly contributed to the placement of this product in our list.
These Aquapac earphones come with silicon ear loops which will allow you to experience a good fit while in the water. Most earbuds would rip out of your ears when under such strong pressure underwater. The ear loops will ensure this doesn’t occur with this product. On top of this, there are 3 different sizes of buds included to cater for different ear sizes. While this should be sufficient, it doesn’t seem as good as the models we’ve already discussed above.
Despite the ear loop design, I don’t think this set provides a complete seal underwater. There will be some water which will enter your ears. The fit isn’t that great and they do tend to come off in the water. You’ll need to adopt other techniques in order to ensure that these Aquapacs stay in your ears. For example, if you wear a swim cap over this product, that should solve the problem but just be aware that this may cause discomfort. Just remember that the poor fit won’t be experienced by every person. If you’re one of the few who has managed to avoid this problem, then you’ll consider these as a pair of comfortable and tight-sealing waterproof headphones.
The sound quality is where this model really excels. You’ll actually be able to listen to your music with great clarity even if you’re under water. This is certainly the biggest advantage of this model. This means that if you’re a keen swimmer and very much into high quality sound then go for these Aquapac earphones.
In overview, this model is quite costly and certainly the most expensive on our list. This means that I’d probably advise you to go for a different product. While the sound quality is great, the overall fit didn’t really impress me! For this reason, I’d probably go for the Swimbuds instead.
One of the more well-known pairs used for swimming, the Surge Mini is powered by H2O audio. This apparently allows them to withstand the tough conditions endured by swimmers and still deliver a premium high-quality sound even when you’re under water. Naturally, I had high expectations from this product in terms of the sound. However, while I found the sound to be decent, I also felt that it was quite thin and the bass wasn’t very strong. When you’re under water, you can’t expect incredible sound quality that’ll blow your mind! At the same time, I feel that this should be decent at the very least. Again, as I’ve mentioned, the sound was good but definitely not premium quality as stated in the product description.
These Minis are quite light weight but also feel a little bit flimsy when it comes to the build quality. I’m not sure how long these will last but from my initial observations, it won’t be too long. Maybe they were designed in such a way to maintain a small light weight design? Who knows!
When compared to the maximum depth of water you can use these in, the Surge Minis stand at up to 12 feet which is not only impressive but also the highest amongst the 5 products we’ve looked at. Another advantage was the inclusion of 5 ear bud sizes which should suit most ear shapes and sizes! However, you may still experience problems with the fit and seal as everyone has different ear sizes. The cord is quite long which may be frustrating while you’re out for a swim.
The Surge Mini is a well-known pair of waterproof earphones! It also comes in two different colours (black and white) and this may be advantageous for some people. However, in terms of performance, I felt that the overall quality was average. Everything was good but not great! This is quite important especially when you consider that this model costs over 35 bucks!
Another pair of swimming headphones created by Aquapac, this model is actually the same as the other Aquapacs we’ve discussed above but doesn’t incorporate an ear loop design. Instead, we have a pair of earphones in the standard ear bud style. The same 3 different sizes of silicon buds are included in order to ensure a secure fit. However, once again, I don’t believe including 3 sizes will make sure that these earphones are suitable for the entire population. For this reason, I consider this to be a minor negative point of these Aquapacs.
Despite the utilization of ear loops, the Aquapacs we’ve already discussed weren’t amazing in terms of the fit. Taking that into account, these earbuds were even worse and you’ll constantly find yourself placing them back into your ear during a lap.
We’ve already discussed the sound quality and this is the biggest advantage these Aquapacs hold. You’ll also find that this model is only available in a solid black colour which may also be a negative point for some people.
In summary, this pair of Aquapac 100-percent swimming headphones is great for its sound quality. However, the associated drawbacks can’t be ignored. On top of this, the price pushes the 40 dollar mark which I’d consider to be rather expensive for such a set. This is certainly one of the more expensive sets on this list. Hence, I would probably avoid this product.
Carrying out this research was difficult and comparing the selected products was equally as hard. However, we wanted to ensure that you received the best possible advice without wasting any of your time carrying out this research by yourself.
As illustrated by the comparison table above, the Swimbuds were placed number 1. I felt that this model warrants its place at the top due to our testing and other customer reviews. Everything about this product is great and the inclusion of a short and long cord really makes me happy. For this reason, this will probably be the only pair of swimming earphones that I’ll highly recommend.
Despite the clear advantages of the Swimbuds, if you don’t have enough money to spend and are looking for budget waterproof headphones for swimming then it would be best to go for the Pyle PWPE10Bs. Priced at under 12 bucks, you can’t go wrong with this model even if the cord is on the long side. Most underwater products won’t maintain their working condition for too long. Even if these earphones last you a couple of months of use, this is still worth it for the price and the quality associated with the Pyle PWPE10Bs.
It’s also very important for me to mention safety information regarding the use of these products. Every model has their own specifications but generally we found that you shouldn’t use any of these at a water depth of greater than 10 feet.
